Viagra to help with depression induced impotence

A recent study of men during sexual activity has revealed that the activity of the brain during intimacy is quite different from the normal state of mind. That's just another evidence of why depressed men have a hard time enjoying sexual activity - the chemical balance in their brain is different, especially the levels of serotonin which are lower than in normal people.

In case the depression is addressed with certain types of drugs, the likelihood of an improvement in ED is much higher. However, some drugs are on the contrary very bad for sexual activity, namely SSRI antidepressants, which are known to cause erectile dysfunction in 65% of male patients who are using them.

There's a strong link between depression and sexual problems. If a man suffers from depression he is very likely to have erectile dysfunction. And visa versa, if there's erectile dysfunction due to any other cause there's a very high risk of developing depression symptoms. Add some drugs that have erectile dysfunction as a side effect and you get a pretty unpleasant situation.

However, things are not as bad as they may seem. Numerous recent studies have confirmed that men who suffer from depression or undergo corresponding medication treatment can improve their sexual abilities with the help of a drug class known as PDE5 inhibitors. The most common representatives of this drug class are of course Viagra and Levitra. It was observed that with these medications both the symptoms of ED and depression have improved in most study participants.

Another research on the causes of ED has shown that some cardiovascular problems may also be a major factor for developing sexual problems. Any condition that affects the sensitive blood flow in the penile shaft is known to cause problems in bed. This is where Viagra and similar drugs is known to help effectively, since these medications were developed for improving the blood circulation in the penis in the first place.

PDE5 inhibitor medications work by decreasing the activity of a specific enzyme named phospodiesterase type 5, which is responsible for blocking blood circulation and easing erection when the sexual activity is over. Drugs like Viagra stimulate the production of nitric oxide and thus stimulate the activity of blood vessels and increase the blood circulation in the penile area.

Still, if you were diagnosed with depression, you should first ask your doctor about using any drugs for erectile dysfunction. While such drugs can improve your sexual functions and stimulate the improvement of mental condition, they can sometimes interact with other drugs and lead to unpleasant consequences. So it is very important to tell your doctor about any medications or substances you are taking at the moment.

Pay special attention if you have heart problems and are taking drugs based on nitrates. Taking these drugs in conjunction with Viagra or any other PDE5 inhibitors may lead to drastic drop in blood pressure, which can be lethal. Take caution when mixing any drugs without your doctor's consent. Some medications will lead to aggravation of specific conditions that you might have, so it always helps to tell your doctors about any drugs or conditions that you have in the first place rather than dealing with the consequences afterwards.
